Take Action

There are several ways you can take action and get involved with Espwa Demen. Your partnership is imperative for the continuation and growth of our work in Haiti.

Many parents in Haiti are faced with tough choices daily when it comes to their children. Countless mothers and fathers make the decision to send their children to live with other family members, in an orphanage, or another arrangement. One of the huge reasons being, they want their children to have an education but the cost of schooling they just can’t afford. So these children are put under another’s care. With relatives they are often given many tasks around the home in order to earn their keep, becoming Resteveks (child servants). Sometimes they are mistreated or not allowed to go to school after all. In an orphanage there is often abuse on top of the normal trauma of growing up in an institutional setting instead of a home.

But there is a better way! So many of these parents want to keep their children. We come alongside families of low income. Families who value their children and desire good for them. Partnering with them, helping to cover the cost of education, uniform, and school books. Enabling them to not have to make that difficult choice that so many others do.

Our children currently come from 4 different villages all within Centre Haiti. Each is required to be serious about school and make passing grades in order to remain in the program. We check up with the families and children every few months. Asking how the semester is going, if there are greater needs within the household, prayer requests, and often bring gifts of food.

You can sponsor a student for $300 a year or $25 a month. This will cover the cost of all school fees and the purchase of uniforms and books. Once you sponsor a child you will be sent periodic emails about your child’s progress, birthday (for those with birth certificates), updated pictures as taken, and personal letters and/or artwork from them with translation.

We are in the midst of assisting with a protestant church build. There are always opportunities for you to get involved whether by a monitary gift or meeting specific prayer needs. You can read about this congregation here.

Unlike many ministries with a focus on medical care Espwa Demen does not have its own medical clinic or a group of medically trained volunteers. However, medical care has become one of the focuses of our mission through the sheer volume of needs that have come to our attention.

Where Most Needed

Any funds donated toward this fund will be put to use in the most urgent needs.

Spread the Word

We’d appreciate it if you’d tell your community about Espwa Demen to raise awareness and support.

Hi! I’m Rachel. Through a series of God orchestrated events I ended up in Haiti, in 2017.  Through years of serving with a ministry there I came to love the country and its people. I met Nelson and we got married in 2020. It was the best decision of my life!
